Tracee Ellis Ross visited "The Gayle King Show" on OWN recently to promote her new long-awaited BET sitcom "Reed Between the Lines."
Tracee told Gayle that 2011 is a good time for her and she has a lot to be thankful for, including her new BET series co-starring "Cosby Show" kid Malcolm-Jamal Warner. The sitcom showcases a modern-day African-American professional family loving each other and taking care of business. "Reed" premieres Tuesday, Oct. 11 on BET.
“This is a show I want to see on television,” said Tracee, when explaining to Gayle why she got behind the project. “What drew me was that [the character] is a happily married woman.” Ross’ character, (Dr. Carla Reed) is a therapist and her husband (Alex Reed), played my Malcolm, is an NYU professor who teaches online classes and primarily takes care of their blended family from home. The chemistry between Tracee and Malcolm can’t be denied. Their screen test for the sitcom was an instant success.
According to Tracee, Malcolm describes their connection as “the best platonic love affair.”
No stranger to television, Tracee has two cable network premieres in one week! In addition to her BET project, Tracee is a proud participant of Lifetime’s special on breast cancer, titled Five. The made-for-TV movie, comprised of five short films that explore the impact of breast cancer, airs tonight, Monday, Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. EST.
Tracee’s friend, Alicia Keys was the producer for her segment. Tracee said it was really fun to work with her friend who had baby Egypt on the set.
Although she’s best-known as an actress now, Tracee’s also well-known as a former top model and daughter of diva, Diana Ross. When asked about how she pulls together her stylish looks, she was quick to point out that her flair for fashion was influenced by her mom, queen diva, Diana Ross. She even chuckled when she admitted how much she looks like her and reminisced about playing in her mom’s closet at a young age.
