LaLa Anthony’s reality series, VH1’s “LaLa’s Full Court Life,” was a success for her and the network, but now the former VJ is turning her attention toward acting.
“I’m really stepping into theater and acting now,” she told Sister 2 Sister. “To be able to have such a huge platform to show people what I can do, I’m really, really excited about it.”
Fans who miss LaLa on the small-screen can check her out in Love, Loss and What I Wore, based on the book of the same name by Ilene Beckerman.
“It’s about how clothing makes you remember something that happened in your life. … For women, clothing can evoke so many memories of things that has happened to you,” she told VH1, noting that her wedding dress is one of those garments.
The off-Broadway play isn’t LaLa’s first foray into acting. She’s credited with small roles in Two Can Play That Game, You Got Served and tthe TV show “One on One." She’s also in the upcoming film Think Like a Man alongside Kevin Hart, Gabrielle Union, Taraji P. Henson and other Hollywood heavyweights.
However, she said hitting the stage night after night in front of a large audience is a bit different.
“I have a whole new respect for Broadway actors and actresses. The scheduling is grueling. It’s eight shows a week. It’s definitely a lot, but it’s amazing to be performing in a theater and have people come out who are there just to see you perform, and see you do your thing. It’s a great way to show people that you’re serious about it. You can’t fake your way on a stage like that,” LaLa told VH1.
“It’s been amazing.”
