Gabrielle Union admits that a lot of popular Black movies have similar storylines; but, she believes Think Like a Man covers new territory.
“I’m playing a geek-chic girl dating interracially. We haven’t seen that. I haven’t dated interracially that I can think of, except for Neo Ned and that was a really different kind of thing. He was a skinhead. I was in a mental institution, and I thought I had the soul of Hitler trapped inside of me. So, that was different. This is funny,” she told Sister 2 Sister.
In the film, Gabrielle plays alongside Jerry Ferrara from TV’s “Entourage.”
“There was Michael Ealy and Kevin Hart and Morris Chestnut and Terrence J… I got Turtle,” she said, referring to Jerry’s former character on the hit HBO series.
Another difference Gabby noted about Think Like a Man is that unlike Two Can Play That Game, Deliver Us From Eva or the scores of other films on her resume, Think is based on a best-selling book.
“It’s original material. Luckily, we have a man like Steve Harvey who wrote a very cutting-edge book that was on the national bestseller list that everyone of all races looked to and appreciated and learned from and we turned that into a movie,” said the actress, who also gushed about her co-stars.
“I think we have an insane cast, and I think it’s really, really funny and heartfelt,” she said. “I’m excited to see how it all turns out, but it felt funny when we were shooting it. So, hopefully other people will laugh as hard as we did when we were making it."
