Bishop Eddie Long steps down

Bishop Eddie Long is taking some time from the pulpit now that his wife has re-filed for divorce.

Eddie told the congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday that he has decided to step down from his official position temporarily, according to ABC News.

“I’m still your pastor. You will receive my direction,” he clarified. It’s not clear how long his break might be, or whether he’ll still be attending services at the church during this time. Supposedly, he’s taking the leave of absence to spend more time with his family.

Things at home are going to be a little tense, however, as his wife of 21 years has decided that it’s time for her to leave, too. Vanessa Long announced Friday that she would be filing for divorce from Eddie, but a few hours later she took back the petition after a change of heart.

Vanessa changed her mind yet again Friday evening, stating that the she would file for divorce afterall.

Her attorney said in a statement, “Mrs. Long continues to hope that this matter may be resolved expeditiously, harmoniously and fairly; however, she has determined that dismissal of her divorce petition is not appropriate at this time.”

This decision comes after her now-estranged husband settled with four young men, who accused Eddie of luring them into sexual relationships as teens, back in May. Vanessa stood by his side through all of it.

There’s no word from Vanessa on what prompted her to end their marriage.
