Nick Cannon experiences kidney failure

The year hasn’t exactly started off right for entrepreneur Nick Cannon, who was hospitalized today for mild kidney failure.

The Teen Nick head honcho was admitted earlier today and wife Mariah Carey announced it to her Twitter fans along with a request for prayers.

“Please pray for Nick as he’s fighting to recover from a mild kidney failure,” Mariah tweeted at approximately 6 a.m. EST today.

According to, “kidney failure occurs when kidney damage is so severe that a person needs dialysis or a kidney transplant to maintain life. Kidney failure often occurs after kidney damage has been present for 10 years or more. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the most common causes of kidney failure in the United States.”

Mariah, a new mom of twins, is no stranger to hospitals, but this time there’s a bit of a role reversal for the couple.

“Last year it was me attached to the machines (after having dembabies) and Nick was there with me through it, and now here we are,” she said after sharing a photo of the couple snug in a hospital bed.

“We’re trying to be as festive as possible under the circumstances but please keep Nick in your thoughts because this is very painful,” she wrote.

“It’s a very serious moment that’s very tough on all of us so please keep us and our family in your prayers.”
