    Plymouth celebrates a ‘dream realized’

Four Black men are being honored for their service nearly 200 years after their passing. Plato Turner, Prince Goodwin, Quamany Quash and Cato Howe of Plymouth, Massachusetts, will be remembered with a sign marking their old settlement.

The town gave the men, three of whom were former slaves, some land in an area known as Parting Ways after the Revolutionary War. There, they established the New Guinea Settlement along with their families.

Plymouth.Patch.com reports that a sign explaining the significance of this plot will be posted today. It is the culmination of a 35-year effort by Parting Ways, The Museum of Afro-American Ethnohistory, to ensure that the land gets some recognition.

"It is a celebration as well as a thank you to the faithful and positive members and supporters, past and present. A ‘Dream Realized,’" said former Parting Ways president Lynda Thomas-LeGay.
