Diddy sued for perfume

One hair care company is raising a stink over the name of Diddy’s perfume, Empress.

The New York Daily News reports that he has been slapped with a lawsuit over the women’s fragrance.

Empress Hair Care filed suit in New York last week, claiming that Diddy knowingly ripped off the name for his product. The company is suing for infringement and charges that the Bad Boy mogul knew he had no right to use the name.

Court documents state that Diddy contacted them in February 2010 to see if they could hammer out a deal that would allow him to dub the fragrance Empress. The Texas-based company, which caters to Black women, rejected that idea citing concerns surrounding market confusion.

Supposedly, Diddy tried to maneuver around the company’s rejection with attempts to register the name "Empress Sean John." That move ran into similar roadblocks.

When all else failed, the hair care company said that Diddy moved ahead with his plan to market Empress perfume despite the lack of consent.

Empress Hair Care, which is also suing for unfair competition, has also named MAC Cosmetics and Estee Lauder in the suit.
