Rapper, record producer, clothing designer, actor and entrepreneur, Sean Combs, will soon add cable channel owner to his growing list of accomplishments. The man behind Biggie, Mary J. Blige and countless others is set to spread his love of music with the launch of a much anticipated music channel.
Revolt, the name of the network, is scheduled to launch about 11 months from now on 12.12.12 and will be available on Time Warner and Comcast, according to Broadcasting & Cable. The programming promises to be jam-packed with music and music news like the early days of MTV but with an urban sound.
Although Diddy’s served as executive producer on several MTV shows, including "Run’s House," "I Want to Work for Diddy," "Making the Band" and even TV’s "Raisin in the Sun" to name a few, this will be his first time heading up an entire network. With this move, he joins the ranks of Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry, who is reportedly launching Tyler TV soon.
It remains to be seen whether any of those MTV shows will become part of the Revolt lineup. To begin with, it seems Diddy is focusing on music-centered shows, not reality TV or sitcoms.
Diddy’s Bad Boy Records burst on the scene in 1993 and he never looked backed. Responsible for producing music giants such as; Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans, Lil Kim, Usher, TLC, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Boyz II Men and SWV, to name a few, Combs career sky-rocketed. In 2011, Forbes estimated his net worth at $500 million, making him the richest figure in hip hop. Fans want to know if a “Diddy” show is in the works for “Revolt?” Only time will tell. There’s no stopping Combs and his entrepreneur genius.
What type of programming would like to see on Diddy’s music channel? Will you be tuning in for Revolt on 12.12.12?
