Jordin Sparks talks filming with Whitney

While celebrities from every industry tweeted expressions of sorrow following Whitney Houston’s death, her Sparkle co-star, Jordin Sparks, remained silent; but now she’s talking about her time on set with the unforgettable diva.

“The first day she got [to the set] she’s scolding me, and I’m thinking this is the best day ever. She went from being this unreachable supernova pop star to my co-star, friend and someone who was like a mentor to me,” Jordin told People magazine.

"Every day started with Whitney saying, ‘How are my babies doing? Are you guys good? God is good.’ It translates on the screen," Jordin said.

Jordin played Whitney’s daughter in the Sparkle remake, which hits theaters in August, and like a daughter, she was following in the footsteps of Whitney recently at an event in Beverly Hills honoring Black women.

For the celebration, Jordin performed “Look Into Your Heart,” a song from the original movie that Whitney once sang.

“It definitely makes me very emotional. I looked up to her. I sang her songs and all of a sudden I was in a movie with her, and I got to see her face to face, and she was so kind. She was so sweet. She was an incredible woman, and I was very, very blessed to get to know her for the short time that I did,” Jordin told “Access Hollywood.”

While few realized that Sparkle would be Whitney’s swan song, Jordin predicted that watching the Bodyguard star in the movie will be a pleasure for her fans.

“When you see Sparkle, you will be so happy to see the joy that is on her face," said Jordin, who described how invested Whitney was in the film.

“It gives me a lot of excitement to be able to put this movie out ‘cause it was her baby, and she was so into it and so happy to be doing it, and I’m so excited that I get to be a part of that,” she said. “It was a gift and an honor to play opposite Whitney Houston in the film."
