Bobbi Kristina: ‘I just saw her as mom’

Oprah Winfrey’s interview with Bobbi Kristina became a trending topic on Twitter last night as millions tuned in to see Whitney Houston’s family answer candid questions about the superstar’s untimely passing.

From leaked open-casket photos to rumors of Whitney’s voice damage, Oprah conducted an intensive 90-minute interview that some said provided "closure" following the star’s shocking death.

The interview took place at the home of Pat Houston, Whitney’s sister–in-law, manager and best friend for over 20 years; it was also the place where Whitney spent New Year’s Eve, enjoying casino night and playing bingo.

The intense interview began with a very composed Bobbi Kristina telling Oprah, “I’m getting through it. I’m doing as good as I possibly can.”

Surprisingly, Bobbi Kristina admitted that she didn’t realize the super-stardom of her mother until they went on tour, and the televised funeral sealed the deal. “I just saw her as mom,” she said.

The only child of Whitney and Bobby Brown, Bobbi Kristina literally grew up in front of the media. Now 19, she is confident that her mother’s presence is with her and she plans to continue her mother’s legacy in the entertainment industry.

She told Oprah she can hear her mother say, “I got you,” a phrase commonly heard in their household.

“She is literally an angel now,” said Bobbi. “The negativity is garbage. That’s not my mother.”

Oprah then posed some pointed questions to Pat regarding drugs, Bobby Brown, and her final months and days. She said Whitney was “in trouble” at the end of the ’90s, but she added,

“I can’t say Bobby introduced her to drugs.”

As for Whitney’s romantic life at the time of her death,

Pat said she witnessed the superstar “chasing a dream” and “looking for love in all the wrong places.” Though she did not name any man specifically, many believe she was referring to on-again, off-again boyfriend Ray J. “The dream she was chasing was younger. In my opinion, a young man who was thriving and loved to be out and about….I just felt she was chasing something that would ultimately hurt her.”

Pat also discussed the party she and Whitney attended two nights before her death. “I went with her because I was concerned,” she said. “I know she wanted to go out and have a good time." According to Pat, Whitney exchanged words with "X-Factor" finalist Stacy Francis, but there was no altercation.

Contrary to what many assume, Pat doubts that Whitney used drugs on the days preceding her death. “I don’t think drugs was an issue leading up to that day… I don’t know what happened that day.”

Though she said lately things were “turning around for her,” Pat gave a vivid account of Whitney’s last moments. Pat’s brother Ray, Whitney’s security guard, found her in the tub and tried, to the point of exhaustion, to revive her.  Pat told him, “let it go,” and at that point the paramedics were on the scene.

“Then I see her,” said Pat.  "She had a peaceful look on her face.  She was peaceful. I could not leave her.  I saw them cover her up and I knew that was it.”
