Eve speaks on Kim vs. Nicki beef

Eve fell short of picking sides in the Nicki Minaj vs. Lil’ Kim beef, but the rapper does feel that newbies need to pay more respect to those that paved the way.

“First of all, there needs to be a level of respect. I feel like a lot of people who are from the past generation trying to get at the new generation, it’s not about publicity. It’s about wanting that respect. I think maybe that’s where Kim is coming from, like, you’re doing your thing right now and no one can take that away from you, Nicki — we all see it — but at the end of the day, if it wasn’t for Kim, she wouldn’t be here and that sh-t is real. And if it wasn’t for [Queen] Latifah, and if it wasn’t for Foxy [Brown] and [MC] Lyte, I wouldn’t be here,” Eve told Women of Hip Hop.

While Eve might question Nicki’s level of respect for female rappers who came before her, she’s not questioning Nicki’s talent or contribution to the genre.

“Nicki is doing her thing and she’s maximizing the market, but that’s because there is no one else out. She’s the only female. She came in at a time when music was so different. She’s doing stuff now that we couldn’t do – well we could do it – I did the collaboration with Gwen, but it’s at a different place,” she said in reference to her hit with Gwen Stefani, “Let Me Blow Ya Mind.”

When it comes to which rapper she likes better, Eve said it’s unfair to pit Nicki Minaj and Lil’ Kim against one another.

“It’s so different and it’s an unfair comparison sometimes for Nicki to say Kim is washed up. Kim is Kim, point blank period,” she said. “Kim is doing her thing and Nicki is doing her thing.”

Eve has had her own experience with hip-hop beef, but she intends to stay out of the one between Nicki and Kim, unless someone brings her into it.

“I know she’s going crazy at the mouth. Until somebody mentions me by name, I don’t care, do you – because all I can do is me,” Eve said about Nicki.
