Although her marriage ended in divorce, Gabrielle Union said her relationship with Dwyane Wade is headed toward "forever."
“I’m taking a lot more time leading up to it,” said Gabby, who divorced Chris Howard in 2006. “We’re taking our time.”
Dwyane and Gabby have been dating for three years and while they aren’t hearing wedding bells yet, she doesn’t feel the need to hurry down the aisle. Patience is something she learned from past experience.
“We both kinda rushed into marriage and neither one of us was successful at that. So, now we’re like, ‘Let’s take our time. If the goal is forever, what are we rushing for?’” she told “Access Hollywood.”
The two have already proven somewhat resilient in the wake of drama. Dwyane’s ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches, accused the couple of being inappropriately affectionate in front of her and Dwyane’s children. Gabby recently told Jet magazine that those allegations were unfounded.
For Dwyane and Gabby, tabloid gossip isn’t the only thing they have to deal with from the public. The two aren’t pressuring each other to make things legal, but Gabrielle admitted that their public romance has people wondering what’s next.
“When you’ve been a couple for so long, people are like, ‘Where’s the baby?’ We gotta go steps,” said the Think Like a Man actress who said she’s learned a lot from her first marriage.
“It’s common sense. It’s basically what you learn from divorce, that you have to be incredibly honest about what you want, what you need, what your expectations are and what your line in the sand is.”
She also had some advice for women who may not have their relationship priorities straight.
“We spend more time thinking about centerpieces and the dress and who’s going to be in your bridal party. At some point, you should say, ‘Have you ever balanced a checkbook? Do you want to work? Do you plan on dating outside of this relationship?’ Things like that should be brought up,” she said.

If a man and woman are committed and in love, do they need to get married? Should Gabby and Dwyane worry about exchanging vows, or just go straight to living happily ever after?
