Tyra Banks has just announced a major shakeup on "America’s Next Top Model" by cutting Nigel Barker and the Js.
Who knew half of Tyra’s crew was up for elimination, too?!
Tyra has missed dismissed Nigel, Jay Manuel and J.Alexander (aka Mr. Jay and Miss J respectively) from the show, according to The New York Post. A source dished that they were told yesterday morning that their contracts would not be renewed for cycle 19 of "ANTM," which will have a collegiate theme.
In all 18 seasons of "America’s Next Top Model" Nigel and the Jays have been constants among a rotating roster of judges and experts. Nigel has been the go-to man for photography expertise, while Mr. Jay directed every photo shoot for the contestants. Meanwhile Miss Jay taught the girls how to strut their stuff on the runway.
A series insider told the Post that the dismissals were production decisions and that there are "major changes planned for [season] 19." Supposedly, producers would like to add more social media elements to the reality modeling competition. Accordingly, the production team has reached out high-profile fashion bloggers like Bryan Boy.
There don’t seem to be too many hard feelings in this huge departure, though. Nigel had a few kind words for Tyra, tweeting, "Best of luck with cycle 19, It has been a pleasure working with you the past 8 years."
He also told his followers not to be too distraught because this move simply opens him up for other exciting opportunities. "It’s the beginning of a new era and new great adventures , exciting new times!" he wrote. "Thanks everybody for your words of support! Here’s to the next chapter!"
For his part, Mr. Jay is also optimistic about what the future holds; although, he is sad to leave the show which made him a household name. "Nigel, Miss J and I had a great run, and now it’s time for us to move on," he wrote on his blog. "But you know me… I’m already working on many interesting projects. I look forward to sharing with you soon!"
Miss J has yet to make a public statement about the dismissal, but executive producer Ken Mok said the fellas will be dearly missed.
“Nigel Barker, Jay Manuel and J.Alexander have been an integral part of the ‘America’s Next Top Model’ brand and they helped turn this show into the household name it is today," Ken said in statement. "They have been amazing assets to the show and will always be a part of the ‘Top Model’ family. We will continue to actively work with each of them on future projects.”
