Tyra: ‘ANTM’ was in need of ‘new boost’

Tyra Banks admits that letting go of three staples of her franchise series “America’s Next Top Model” was a difficult decision.

“We’ve reached a point where we feel that the show just needs a new boost and there’s a lot of people that go into that decision, and it’s very difficult because I love my guys. They’ve been there since the beginning of the show,” she told “Access Hollywood.”

Considering that Nigel Barker, J.Alexander (Miss J.) and Jay Manuel have all played integral roles in the reality competition series for more than a dozen cycles and 10 years, Nigel told RadarOnline.com that he’s expecting the decision won’t sit well with viewers.

“I think it isn’t going to work. The fans have had a backlash of reaction,” Nigel told KiSS 92.5 in Toronto. “I feel this is a huge mistake and Miss J. and myself are going to be enormously missed,” he said.

While Nigel did voice his dissenting opinion on Tyra’s latest eliminations, he stopped short of pointing the finger at her.

“I don’t blame Tyra. It isn’t a blame game. I thank Tyra for giving me an opportunity for the last 10 years,” he said.

While Nigel suggests that maybe the powers that be will think twice about their decision, Tyra hinted that she’s not done with her faithful fellows and possibly has other projects in mind for them.

“They’ll still be there because my partner, Ken Mok and I, we have projects we’re developing and we’re a family. So, it doesn’t end,” she said.
