The short-lived love affair between Brandy and Wanya Morris of Boyz II Men may have been a lot more intense that fans realized.
“It felt like somebody had just completely taken my heart out of my body and just crushed it,” she said.
According to Brandy, the pressures of their careers pulled them apart and then Wanya fell in love with someone else.
“The worst feeling is to be in love all by yourself. That feels f_ck@d up. Honestly, it just does, and that’s the only way I can really put it,” she said.
While music fans may not have known how close Wanya and Brandy were, the relationship between Whitney Houston and Brandy was well-documented.
The two co-starred together in the 1997 TV version of the “Cinderella” musical. However, the iconic singer was more than just a professional colleague for Brandy, and her death had a significant effect on her.
“She died on my birthday, so it’s like I have a responsibility to do everything that she would have wanted me to do. I have to stay true to that intention and true to being an inspiration and a light. That’s what she would want,” said Brandy.
Whitney died during a weekend when music artists celebrate one another, but the Grammy Award festivities were overshadowed by the legend’s death, and Brandy recounts how she first learned of her mentor’s passing.
“My mom calls me, and she says, ‘Whitney just passed away.’” It’s almost like my whole life just completely left my body in that moment, and I just fell to the floor. I wanted to cry. I wanted to curse. I wanted to scream. I wanted to do everything that I needed to do to get this feeling out,” she said.
Brandy also talks about her struggle with an eating disorder. Watch the clip below.
