Lil Kim has no idea why rapper Azealia Banks is calling her out on Twitter.
According to Kim’s publicist, C.J. Carter, the former Junior Mafia princess and Azealia have never exchanged one word.
“[M]y client and azealia have NEVER spoke to one another or met AT ALL. Kim was actually very flattered azealia’s public admiration for her, which is why it’s so hard to understand how someone who claims to be a true Lil Kim fan could flip the script so easily on someone who was supposedly their idol,” read the statement.
Azealia was less than impressed by Kim’s statement and still welcomed the veteran rapper’s participation on the track.
“@LilKim real talk I just want that verse …. ya know..? I’m not really here for ur team and they’re pseudo professionalism. @LilKim u can still use the verse of you want.. Or feel free to write your own. But you should really do the verse,” she wrote.
The so-called beef began when Azealia took to Twitter to blast Kim for getting upset that Azealia wrote a rhyme for her.
“Lil Kim got mad that I wrote a verse for her on a record I wanted her on,” she wrote. “Everybody knows Lil Kim doesn’t write her own raps and I saw this as a faster more efficient way of getting the track done. She then had her assistant write me some long a$$ offensive email about how Lil Kim writes her own raps and doesn’t need anyone’s help.”
If nothing else, the beef between Azealia and Kim has increased the newcomer’s profile. One Twitter user wrote: “All this talk about @AZEALIABANKS. Never heard of her til today and I instantly became a fan.”
