Women cheat with more partners than men

Whether it is a quest for emotional fulfillment or things have just gotten boring at home, women who cheat are likely to have more secret lovers than men.

A recent study conducted by The UK Adultery Survey 2012 found that women who cheat have an average of 2.3 extracurricular lovers to 1.8 for men who stray, according to www.dailymail.co.uk.

In addition, on average men do not cheat until six years into a relationship, while women who cheat are more likely to start in year five.

Women also start younger on average, with the typical woman cheating at age 37, while the average man starts venturing at 42.

The most interesting part? The study found that 40 percent of women and 30 percent of men would ask their spouse for a divorce if they ever discovered the other person to be having an affair.

In the age of the Internet, it seems to be more commonplace for married couples to cheat. Ashleymadison.com, the leading site for married individuals who want to have an affair, averages 1.8 million unique visitors per month according to alexa.org.

Undercover Lovers, another dating site for people who are married boasts roughly 600,000 members, and finds that their membership demographics also support the studies statistical revelations.

Clinical Social Worker, Dr. Mady Pinkus notes that men and women often stray for different reasons. “More often you find that when women cheat it is due to insecurity that is tied to their own self-esteem,” she explained.

It’s the validation from the affair that often makes a woman’s infidelity more emotionally involved, while men brag that they can separate their feelings from the act of having sex.

“That is why you see more women falling in love with their secret lovers, because they develop an emotional attachment to this person that makes them feel special, whereas men often cheat out of dissatisfaction or boredom with their home or sex life” Mady said.
