When “X-Factor” producers told Stacy Francis that she would be singing Prince’s “Purple Rain,” she did what anyone would do—panic.
“I was crying,” she told S2S, thinking she couldn’t sing the legendary song. “Who can do Prince? I was so discouraged, so I had to really pray about it.”
But Stacy, who has proven herself an emotionally-charged vocalist as a finalist of “X-Factor”, decided to do some research to hopefully make the song her own. The result was a ballad that made “X-Factor” judge Nicole Scherzinger cry.
“I started to Google the color purple. I thought that that had to mean something. I started seeing it in religion to represent God’s love. So when I looked at it from that viewpoint of God’s love raining down on me, it became a ministry,” Stacy revealed. “Ever since I did that all the fans have been like, ‘Please give us the full version!’”
At the fans request, the single, which was produced by 1500 or Nothin (producer for Chris Brown, Beyoncè, Rihanna and Brandy), was released worldwide on iTunes today. In August Stacy plans on releasing a yet-to-be-titled R&B album chock-full of ballads.
“I’m so excited about my song and my album. It has been very fulfilling to be able to record this album. I really want people to feel my communication in my music and teach in some sort of way. I want this album to heal and communicate,” she said.
In other news, Stacy is in talks to work on a reality show about her music and life, rumored to debut in September. We’ll be sure to watch!
