Tia Mowry-Hardrict’s reality series, “Tia & Tamera,” doesn’t follow the template of drama and violence that some seem to, but she’s not surprised that some shows go there.
“I remember when we were pitching our show to different networks, many of them didn’t want to pick it up because they felt like we didn’t have enough conflict,” Tia told Vibe.
It’s unlikely that fans will ever see Tia and her twin, Tamera Mowry-Housley, engage in fisticuffs on their shows, and while the networks may have complained, they are praised for offering a different portrayal of Black women.
“My sister and I were like, ‘We aren’t those type of people.’ So, it’s all about us being positive role models. People always say it’s nice to see fresh, vibrant, funny women on television, and that’s my sister and I,” said Tia, who is a fan of “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
Despite the naysayers, the sisters’ series, which returns June 11, was a hit on the Style network. Whether viewers tuned in or not, Tia said she and Tamera wouldn’t have flipped the script.
“We knew we weren’t going to change who we are for the show business, so it’s kind of something that has been accepted,” Tia said.
