Original King of Comedy Cedric the Entertainer recently talked about his new movie Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted, which hits theaters Friday.
Cedric described the sequel as an animated version of The Bourne Identity. The characters, animals escaped from New York’s Central Park Zoo, are on their way back home when they get caught up in Europe on the run from a crazed animal control inspector.
“Their adventures just get more and more interesting,” Cedric told S2S.
Cedric said his facial expressions were incorporated into his character Maurice the lemur’s animations. “When they have the camera on me, I’ll do a little dance move. I was like, ‘Oh, that was actually one of my little moves right there; I’mma have to get that patented!'”
Ced went on to talk about his new sitcom, “The Soul Man,” which is set to debut June 20 on TV Land. He co-created the show with “Hot in Cleveland” producer Suzanne Martin. In the show, Ced plays an R&B singer who gets the calling to become a pastor.
He stars alongside Niecy Nash, John Beasley and Wesley Jonathan. “I’m excited about my show, I’m excited about the opportunity,” Cedric gushed.
He also let us in on some of his other upcoming projects. Look out for his turn as Seattle politician Richard McIver in the movie Grassroots, which will hit theaters later this summer. He also has a new sketch comedy show called “The Black Version,” which airs this fall on Comedy Central and will present “Black versions” of famous movies.
In the meantime, Ced made it clear his first love is stand-up comedy, and he’s got an upcoming show in Atlantic City on July 17. But you can check him out as Maurice on Friday when Madagascar 3 opens.
