Is Angelique Sabrina the next Rihanna?

Singer. Dancer. Songwriter. Actor. No wonder Angelique Sabrina is causing such a buzz. The 14-year-old Bahamian native began singing and composing her own music while playing instruments when she was just 8-years-old.

She was recently declared the winner of Sydney, Australia’s "Top 5 Rising Star Countdown," but she said her biggest break was having her latest video, “Pull Up,” premiere on MTV’s Buzzworthy blog. A few days later, the video was featured on Ryan Seacrest’s website.

Angelique told S2S that she admires “timeless” artists such as Tony Bennett, Elvis Presley, James Brown, Frank Sinatra and her #1 inspiration, Michael Jackson. “Their music to me is just so good! That’s all I listen to!” So how does the teen pop star feel about being dubbed “the next Rihanna”?

“I think that’s a compliment,” she told S2S. “In time people will see with my own work that I am my own artist, but I think that’s a compliment. Her, being from the islands as well, she set the standard. I’m proud of that and to me [being] compared to somebody like that is perfect.”

Angelique has already caught the attention of Grammy- winning producer and rapper Rockwilder. “Angelique Sabrina records quickly and on-point like someone who has been doing this for a very long time,” he said on her website. “She’s the one. She’s going to be HUGE. You can also see her love for the craft is genuine and she is extremely comfortable with who she is as an artist.”

Barbadian singer Shontelle also recognized Angelique’s talent and has been a huge part of her upcoming music. “Shontelle and I are like sisters now,” Angelique said.

Angelique writes or co-writes all of her songs and aims to fuse an urban flair with an island pop vibe. Her latest video to the dance track, “Pull Up,” shows off Angelique’s crafty dance skills and introduces a new dance fad, “the pull up.” This catchy island pop track will get anyone in the mood to “pon de floor.”
What’s next? Angelique is setting her sights on experimenting with different styles of music, continuing dancing, hopefully advancing her acting career to Broadway or on the Big Screen. We look forward to seeing big things from Angelique. Check out her video “Pull Up” below and see if you can catch onto the new dance craze.
