Oprah Winfrey is explaining why in the world she wanted to interview the Kardashian family.
Upon news of the media mogul’s plans to chat it up with the entire Kardashian crew, many in the public accused Oprah of pulling a publicity stunt to boost ratings on OWN.
The network hasn’t had the most spectacular showing in the ratings since its January 2011 launch. However, Oprah posted a letter on Facebook stating that the driving force behind the chat with Kim Kardashian and her family was simply curiosity.
"I had never met them, nor seen the show," Oprah said in her letter. "I genuinely wanted to know why they have become a cultural phenomenon. Why do so many people love to watch their every move and why do so many others love to hate them?"
She added, "Are they really famous for being famous?"
For the answer to that question, O went to the HKIC (that’s Head Kardashian in Charge), Kris Jenner.
The promo clip below also previews some of the hard-hitting questions posed to Kim.
When Oprah asked Kim, Kourtney, Khloé and Rob if they felt like they were being pimped by Kris, they denied it.
"She’s our mother," Rob said in near disbelief.
"I think that’s so ridiculous," said Kim. "First of all, we’d have to hire a manager, so, regardless, someone is going to get that. No one will fight harder for you than your own mother."
For more with the Kardashians, tune in for "Oprah’s Next Chapter," airing June 17 at 8 p.m. on OWN.
