Mary J. Blige talks Burger King backlash

Mary J. Blige wants everyone to know how she felt about the backlash she suffered after doing her now-infamous Burger King commercial.

Mary told Hot 97 that she was completely shocked when she found out how strongly people felt about her jingle for the Crispy Chicken Wrap.

"I went online to listen to the remix I did with Fat Joe and I’m looking for that and all I see is ‘Burger King,’ ‘chicken,’ ‘buffoonery,’ and I’m like, ‘What the heck?” Mary recalled. "It just broke my heart that people were going crazy."

It’s not that Mary lacks a sense of humor because she knows why the commerical was such big news, and why it caught the attention of so many media outlets. "I understand the laughter and the jokes that was happening," Mary said. "The thing that hurt me is when people were just starting to say vicious and negative things that didn’t even have nothing to do with that."

Mary didn’t wallow in her sorrows for too long and she bounced back from disappointment rather quickly. She said "It hurt my feelings. It crushed me for like two days but after those two days I got up and I kept going."

With all of that off of her chest, the "Don’t Mind" diva went about the business of making amends with her fans and the Black community at large. "I want to apologize to everyone that was offended or thought that I would do something so disrespectful to our culture," she said. "I would never do anything like that purposely. I thought I was doing something right so forgive me and now I’m moving on.
