Quincy Jones, Pharrell Williams honored by ASCAP

Hundreds of songwriters, recording artists and music industry leaders gathered at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles over the weekend to pay tribute to two music masterminds, Pharrell Williams and the legendary Quincy Jones.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) hosted its 25th Annual Rhythm & Soul Music Awards to honor its songwriters and publishers who hit the 2011 R&B/hip-hop, rap and gospel charts.

Some of the highlights from the evening included EMI Music Publishing receiving the Publisher of the Year Award, Pharrell being awarded the Golden Note Award, Noah “40” Shebib being named the Songwriter of the Year and Babyface’s presentation of the coveted ASCAP Founders Award to Quincy for his pioneering contributions to music.

The award presentations were rounded out by powerhouse performances from Tyrese, Marsha Ambrosius and even rapper Meek Mills.

The stage wasn’t the only place were you could see star power: In the audience you could find Jordin Sparks, Kandi Burruss, Wayne Brady, Vanessa Williams, Elle Varner, Goapele and Erica Campbell of Mary Mary.
