Frank Ocean comes out

Frank Ocean came out of the closet this week by revealing that his first love was a man.

Odd Future’s Frank Ocean recently came out of the closet making him the first hip-hop star to admit a sexual attraction to men. The “Novacane” singer took to Tumblr to further express his attraction to men stating that his first love was a man.

“Four summers ago, I met somebody. I was 19 years old. He was too” Frank wrote in an open letter. "I don’t have any secrets to need kept anymore…I feel like a free man.”

Frank also revealed that he spent nearly every day with the man, who had a girlfriend and as such "wouldn’t admit" his feelings for the singer. "By the time I realized I was in love, it was malignant. It was hopeless," said Frank. "There was no escaping, no negotiating with the feeling. No choice. It was my first love. It changed my life."

Odd Future members and friends of Frank soon tweeted their thoughts and reactions about the situation.

“F-cking Finally Sus Boy @frank_ocean Hahahaha, You Still Aint Got No B-tches Hahaha My N-gga Dawg,” Tyler The Creator tweeted to Frank. “My Big Brother Finally F-cking Did That. Proud of That N-gga Cause I Know That Shit Is Difficult Or Whatever.”

Hody Beats followed up with some more encouraging words for Frank, tweeting “Even if he wrong, at least he true to his s-it.”

Odd Future’s managers also put in their two cents, stating, “I’ve had a million proud moments in my career…this one falls at the top”

Adding to the positive tweets was Solange Knowles’ own congratulations. “I salute you, brave soul. Independence Day. @frank_ocean,” she said.

Although there was a tremendous outpouring of support from his loved ones and colleagues, fans had some mixed reactions to the singer’s announcement and it showed through Frank’s loss of followers on Twitter.

It came as no surprise to country singer, Chely Wright who was the first gay country singer to come out of the closet. “I can’t think of a better way for Frank to celebrate Independence Day. It’s spectacular,” she said.
However, the country star said freedom such as this comes at a high cost. Chely’s record sales have dropped to a third of what they were before she revealed that she was a lesbian back in 2010. She also said that a number of venues have made her persona non grata, because they fear fans will boycott her performances, reports TMZ.

What do you think? Still want to go around singing the hit song “Thinking Bout You” or has Frank lost you as a fan as well?
