Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige and Aretha Franklin are just a few of the names being tossed around as possible additions to the “American Idol” judging panel.
The hiring process is already underway and Mariah is “in serious talks” about the role, according to People magazine. However, hubby Nick Cannon isn’t sure "Idol" has the money to bring on Mariah. "I don’t know if they can afford a Mariah Carey. That’s a lot of money. If they gave J.Lo $20 million, they might have to double that!" he told TMZ.
Last season’s judges, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, announced their departure from the long-running singing competition show recently, and the show’s producers want to turn up the wattage on the star power.
The ratings for the show have slipped lately, in part due to competition from other similar network series, such as “X Factor” and “The Voice.”
Mary, who served as a mentor on the latest season of “Idol,” has also been mentioned as a potential judge, but isn’t the only “queen” in consideration.
Aretha reportedly emailed CNN to make it clear that she’s interested in the job, and she wants Patti LaBelle there with her.
CNN has not publicized the email from Aretha, and Fox has yet to comment on her suggestion.
Charlie Sheen, Adam Lambert and Celine Dion are also reportedly up for the job.
