Mariah Carey’s got a new gig! The "Honey" diva has just signed on to be a judge on "American Idol."
Mariah is your new "American Idol" judge!
She announced the good news in a tweet yesterday, stating, "It’s gonna be so much fun working on @AmericanIdol. As a singer-songwriter, I’m excited to help find and nurture new talent. LYM!"
There’s no official word on how much Mimi made on the deal to replace Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, but there were whispers that she was holding out for a $17 million payday.
Mariah’s confident that she’ll bring something really special to the judge’s panel as she preps to drop a new album of her own.
"As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol," Mariah said in a statement. "I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and its first single, ‘Triumphant,’ which will be out early next month. I can’t wait to channel my creative energy as a part of this show which is a massive global phenomenon."
The singer introduced herself as part of the "Idol" team yesterday during FOX’s Television Critics Association session. Although she could not attend the event in person, Mariah called in and told the audience that she can’t wait to get started in January.
