Rihanna sheds tears over Chris Brown

In the aftermath of her highly publicized abuse at the hands of Chris Brown, Rihanna said she was more concerned about him than herself.

“I felt protective,” she told Oprah Winfrey on an episode of “Next Chapter” that will air Sunday.

“It was a weird, confusing space to be in ‘cause as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help,” she explained.

During that time, Rihanna said she was concerned that her former boyfriend and best friend would only be demonized instead of counseled.

“Who’s going to help him? Nobody’s going to say he needs help. Everyone’s gonna say he’s a monster without looking at the source, and I was more concerned about him,” she said through tears.

Rihanna admitted that the whole thing was a lot for her to handle.

“I lost my best friend. Everything I knew switched, switched in a night, and I couldn’t control that. I had to deal with that and that’s not easy for me to understand or interpret, and it’s not easy to interpret on camera, not with the world watching,” she said.

Since then, Rihanna and Chris have forged a new platonic friendship; although in recent months, there have been rumors that the two have been romantically involved.

Chris, who is currently involved in a new relationship, has denied the rumors, but Rihanna has kept silent about the gossip.
