Tracee Ellis Ross has left her BET sitcom "Reed Between The Lines" in the dust.
The doctor is out!
The Los Angeles Times reports that Tracee, who starred as main character Dr. Carla Reed, has decided to quit "Reed Between The Lines."
It’s not clear what prompted Tracee to make this decision as it was her first major TV gig since "Girlfriends." However, the actress said in statement that "Reed Between The Lines" was a show that "I believe in and care about."
Her exit from the show may be more of a "see you later" than a final goodbye as Tracee indicated that there’s a "chance" she may someday return. There don’t seem to be any hard feelings from the network as BET President of Original Programming and News Loretha Jones said that Tracess is "an amazing talent," stating, "We wish her nothing but the best and hope to work with her again in the future."
For now, it seems that BET has every intention of moving forward with season 2. It was reported that when "Reed Between The Lines" returns in July that Carla and Alex (played by Malcolm Jamal Warner) will be separated. Carla’s absence will be explained as it becomes apparent that she has moved to Los Angeles for her dream job. While she hopes her family will follow her, Alex is hesitant to move their children from Atlanta, so he decided to hold down the homestead.
Malcolm won’t be going it alone on the set as Michole White, Tony Rock and Charlie Robinson have all been added to the cast. Michole and Tony will play Alex’s friends as they help him handle the kids on his own and cope with his marital issues. Charlie has been cast as his dad.
Malcom has yet to publicly offer up his thoughts on Tracee’s exit at this time.
