Tracee Ellis Ross has kissed BET’s “Reed Between the Lines” good-bye, but that wasn’t something she actually planned to do.
Tracee explained that her departure from the show was a result of bad timing.
“BET hadn’t decided if they were picking up the show yet or not,” Tracee told Essence.com. “During that time when they didn’t know, I was offered a really amazing pilot for NBC.
“Then the timing got complicated and there was a need to move forward,” said Tracee, who wasn’t available when BET began shooting for season 2 of “Reed.”
“I wasn’t available, but it’s not because I wanted to leave,” she said. “I love ‘Reed Between the Lines.’ I believe in it. There is a chance I’ll go back.”
For now, the show has moved on without Tracee. Her character, Carla, will be missing in action when the series returns, according to reports.
Although “Reed” was praised for depicting a healthy, loving, middle-class family, the Reeds will be separated when the show returns. Carla will have moved to Los Angeles, while Alex [Malcolm Jamal-Warner] will be raising the kids; although, he may have some help.
“Alex Reed’s dad is now on Reed Between The Lines,” tweeted Malcolm last week.
