Matt Barnes blames ‘BBW” for relationship drama

Matt Barnes has learned his lesson, and viewers will see a lot less of him on season 2 of “Basketball Wives: LA.”

“We already opened up our relationship enough, and we went through our drama last summer,” said Matt, who separated from babymama Gloria Govan after season 1 of the VH1 reality show aired.

“Definitely, opening your relationship and our family up put a strain on our relationship,” he told the DJs at Power 105.1 in New York. “So, we’re going to keep our situation a lot tighter this time around.”

Matt and Gloria are trying to work things out, and have been dating for eight months, but Matt said it’s not always easy to get over the past.

“It’s always hard when you have some sort of celebrity behind your name and everything you do is in the media’s eye, and then you talk and messing with other celebrities. It kind of gets messy,” said Matt, who was linked to actress Eva Longoria during his separation from Gloria.

According to Matt, there was a lot of temptation out there for both of them when news spread about their split.

“She’s a beautiful woman. I’m a decent looking dude, so we’re going to have people after us. Once everybody heard we were split, it was a chase,” he said.

Though he may still have some women in pursuit, Matt said he’s focused on his family these days. That’s not his only motivation for keeping his distance from the show.

“I don’t think teams look too highly on reality shows, especially the reality shows that are out now,” he said.

With family and career as his top priorities, Matt has no problem leaving the reality TV scene to his girlfriend. However, he admitted that “Basketball Wives: LA” hasn’t been completely horrific.

“It’s been a benefit for both of us. We’ve both picked up new fans. So it’s not a bad thing,” he said.
