A California rodeo clown is now being blamed for the racist joke made about Michelle Obama that blared over the loudspeaker on Saturday and left audience members in an outrage.
The San Luis Obispo Tribune originally reported that announcer Ed Kutz was the one who made the joke, but more recently reported that rodeo clown Mike Hayhurst was the one who actually made the comment, which many felt was insensitive.
According to the Tribune, the "joke" was something along the lines of:
“Playboy is offering Ann Romney $250,000 to pose in the magazine, and the White House is upset about it because National Geographic only offered Michelle Obama $50 to pose for them.”
According to Creston Classic Rodeo board member Mike Barrett, the board is not taking responsibility for the joke, and although the rodeo clown is not in direct affiliation with the board, they are asking him to issue a pubic apology.
“I can’t speak for the board, but I myself think that this is unacceptable behavior or conduct by the announcer. I find it offensive, and I think that it’s conduct unbecoming the rodeo announcer,” he told the Tribune.
The board has yet to fire him.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the First Lady has been the subject of racism in the media; her face was put on the nude body of an enslaved woman from the 1800s as the cover of The Spanish Magazine last month.
