Authorities honored Evelyn Lozada’s request and agreed not to lock up her ex-husband, Chad Johnson.
Instead of the one-year sentence Chad could have faced after pleading no contest to charges of domestic battery, the former NFL star remains a free man.
“She did not wish to proceed with the prosecution and certainly did not wish that Mr. Johnson be incarcerated as a result of this incident,” a prosecutor told Pro Football Talk.
Although Chad’s gut reaction may be to run and thank Evelyn for her compassion, the terms of the agreement won’t allow it.
The 34-year-old father of four is prohibited from contacting Evelyn in person, and via text, email or Twitter.
Evelyn’s publicist has denied rumors that the two have been in contact since the August dispute. The “Basketball Wives” star told life coach Iyanla Vanzant that she had nothing left to say to her ex.
According to reports, Chad informed the judge that he did prefer to remain in contact with Evelyn, but he reluctantly agreed to honor her wishes.
