Chad Johnson admits cheating, past domestic violence

Chad Johnson opened up about the domestic incident that ended his marriage to Evelyn Lozada and hurt his career.

The NFL player virtually faced a firing squad on ESPN’s "First Take" as he had a candid conversation with three interviewers that were asking the questions that have been on everyone’s mind since he head-butted Evelyn Lozada this summer.

Chad owned up to his past issues with domestic violence during the rare interview, and he admitted that his argument with Evelyn was sparked by his marital infidelities. "That’s where everything stemmed from," he explained.

"There was a domestic dispute, for one, which was all my fault, because I’m living life the way it shouldn’t be lived. [That’s] why I lost everything I did," Chad stated. "It is what it is. I made the bed, I’m laying in it. I paid the price for what I did wrong."

When it comes to his attack on Evelyn, whom he still refers to as his wife, Chad said it was moment of very poor judgement. "What happened was a mistake. That’s what happened. A mistake that I’ve continuously apologized for with the people that I’ve hurt, including my wife," he said. "I think me continuing to say ‘sorry’ sort of drowns it out."

He added, "I’ve accepted responsibility for my actions—especially with her."

Despite the fact that their divorce was finalized in September, Chad said he’s still fighting for Evelyn. He seems to show that same determination when it comes to his career. He was cut from the Miami Dolphins just hours after his fight with Evelyn.

"I’m going to play again," said Chad. "If I don’t, I am fine with walking away. I don’t have a choice."

The NFL player, who has been in trouble for domestic violence before, also explicitly stated his stance on violence against women. "My stance is it’s wrong. It’s wrong. It’s common sense, but I’ve made mistakes," said Chad.  "Don’t crucify me because we all sin differently."
