Kerry Washington is ecstatic to have Meagan Good join her in the Primetime Leading Ladies Club.
Eveyone else in the world might be comparing "Deception" and "Scandal," but the series’ stars are showing each other nothing but love. With Meagan tracking down a killer as Joanna Locasto on "Deception" and Kerry running thangs as Olivia Pope on "Scandal," Brown girls have two more strong characters to watch.
Though there are Black actresses (such as Taraji P. Henson) in supporting roles on network TV, for the first time in recent memory, two Black women are leading dramas on two major networks. The best part? The series are very different from one another, and they’re not in direct competition for ratings because "Deception" and "Scandal" air on two different nights.
"I’m sooooo happy for @MeaganGood and EXCITED for her new show #Deception – LOVE the billboards! Congrats Beautiful XO," Kerry tweeted before Monday’s premiere. "EXCITED for @meagangood tonight!!!! Sending hugs and prayers your way #DECEPTION."
Meagan was astounded by the online shout-out and immediately accepted the props. "Wow…. Thank you so much … God is good," Meagan replied in gratitude, "That means a lot to me Godbless you and your show is awesome!!! I’m blown away @ the grace of God."
Then Meagan had a bit of fangirl moment, tweeting, "Freaking @kerrywashington tweeted me her support/love–I so respect&admire her.Just means a lot #humbled. @kerrywashington Godbless you too!!!!! … And thank you again."
The "Deception" star also gushed about Kerry in The Wall Street Journal. "I think [Kerry] is so beautiful and so talented as an actress. I love everything that she does," Meagan said. "For me it was like wow—I was really thankful that she reached out, and was offering her support and just showing love."
It’s not the first time that Kerry has offered up her congrats to Meagan. "She had told me before that she had seen me in Brick and had sent me a message I didn’t get," Meagan revealed. "When I saw her in person, she told me she supported me and wanted me to do well. I’m in awe because I think she’s fantastic."
