Gabrielle Union thanks God for TV gigs

What do Taraji P. Henson, Kerry Washington and Gabrielle Union all have in common? In addition to being wonderfully talented actresses, they’re all big-screen names who’re transitioning to TV.

While some might consider the boob tube a step down, Gabrielle, who’ll soon star in BET’s “Being Mary Jane,” said it’s about seizing the jobs that are available.

“It’s called mortgages that need to be paid and opportunity and people wanting to see us,” said Gabrielle who fans can still see in theaters. The actress is currently working on the sequel to the Steve Harvey hit Think Like a Man.

Gabby is in good company with many other Black actresses starring in TV series on network and cable TV. Taraji can be seen on CBS’ “Person of Interest.” Kerry is receiving praise for her role as Olivia Pope on ABC’s “Scandal.” Regina King, who started on TV in “227,” returns for the new season of “Southland,” premiering this month. Meagan Good, who also started as a child actress on Nickelodeon, co-stars with Laz Alonso in “Deception.” That’s just to name a few.

Gabrielle noted that while some of the characters are secondary, for her and some of her professional colleagues, they’re the main stars of these new shows.

“Thank God for television giving so many people the opportunity to be the queens of our castle,” she said.
