Beyoncé’s documentary Life Is But A Dream was a huge ratings win for HBO and OWN this weekend.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film drew 1.8 million viewers on Saturday night when it premiered on February 16. That edges out the previous record held by Spike Lee for his Hurricane Katrina documentaries When The Levees Broke, which aired in 2006 and pulled in 1.7 million viewers.

It’s not clear whether these numbers include the 24-hour marathon of Life Is But A Dream that HBO Zone aired on Sunday. At 1.8 million viewers that triples the ratings of recent premiere episodes for HBO’s hit series “Girls.”

And Beyoncé did wonders for Oprah’s ratings last as well. Her special episode of “Oprah’s Next Chapter” earned 1.3 million viewers when it aired an hour before Life Is But A Dream debuted on HBO. “Oprah’s Next Chapter” was particularly popular among women 25-54 as it was the most watched non-sports program on cable for that demographic.
