Nicki Minaj is taking the next step in her style evolution for her new MAC Viva Glam campaign.
As Nicki enters her second year with the initiative to promote HIV/AIDS Awareness in the prettiest way possible, the rapper has decided that pink might be a thing of the past.
“I wanted to have something that was very futuristic–felt more like what’s happening now,” Nicki told MTV News. “I already have my classic pink, and I wanted to have something new to try.
“MAC wanted to come out with these lavender shades, and they sent me a whole bunch to choose from,” said Nicki, who will be releasing her new shade called Nicki 2 soon. “I tried this on, I loved it, and here we are.”
Nicki’s fans can grab her new hue in lipstick or MAC’s Lipglass, which the rapper feels simply expands on the beauty options for her loyal Barbz.
“I wouldn’t say there was something that was missing, but there wasn’t a custom Nicki color, so I think it’s just fresh and exciting and it’s fun,” Nicki explained, adding that she doesn’t mind modeling her own products for her fans. “A lot of times when you go to wear lipsticks, you don’t get the chance to see how they look on TV, pictures, regular just day-to-day shots.”
Using Nicki as a test subject, possible customers will vicariously get to try out the new shade with different outfits and color palettes. “My fans get to see me wear my lipstick all the time, they can kind of decide, they use me sort of like their way of gauging how every outfit will look with this particular lipstick,” she said. So that’s what we’ll be doing from here on out with the lavender.”
