Just when it seemed that things couldn’t get worse in the increasingly violent city of Chicago, a baby was shot five times as her father was changing her diaper. reported that 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins later died in a Comer Children’s Hospital after multiple unsuccessful surgeries. Her father, 29-year-old Jonathan Watkins, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where he is in stable condition after being shot in the left side and right buttock. He was also grazed in the face.

The shooting happened around the 6500 block of South Maryland Avenue at approximately 12:45p.m. Tuesday.

Chicago police, who noted Jonathan Watkins’ extensive criminal history and gang ties, are looking into a claim that someone had previously threatened him via Facebook.
