Porsha Stewart is hoping some popular misconceptions about her are straightened out when the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” reunion airs.
“People feel like I’ve never worked. I’ve never done anything to accomplish anything in my life. That’s not true,” she told TheGrio.com.
On the reality series, Porsha is depicted as sort of a trophy wife to her former NFL husband, Kordell Stewart. While the two have debated about Porsha’s pursuit of a career, many wondered what career the couple was referring to.
According to Porsha, she’s an entrepreneur. “I’ve owned a business since I was 26 years old. A lot of the women, I don’t think they see that side of me, so maybe they just judge it from the outside,” she reasoned.
While people may be wrong about Porsha’s resume, she didn’t dispute what co-stars and fans are saying about her relationship with her husband. NeNe Leakes and Cynthia Bailey, in particular, have accused Kordell of being “controlling” and Porsha of being submissive.
“That’s not a bad thing. That’s a great thing,” she said. “We’re supposed to be submissive to our husbands and let them be the leaders. That’s just what I do. I’m old school in that way that I think about that,” she said.
When it comes to her husband, Porsha listens to his counsel and defers to him, but don’t get it twisted. She has no intention of letting her co-stars exercise that type of authority in her life.
She was prepared to confront Cynthia, who ultimately dismissed Porsha of her pageant duties, and she held her ground when pressured to accompany her co-stars to a strip club. However, the biggest indication that she’s more than just a pretty face is how she stood up to on-screen nemesis Kenya Moore.
If fans are hoping the two reconcile during the season 5 reunion, don’t count on it.
“I feel that I have forgiven her at this point, but I just can’t forget all the things that she’s done to me thus far. Us being friends? No. Me being social, and being a lady and being around her…? I have no problem with that,” she said.
