It turns out that Porsha Stewart found out about her divorce the same way that everyone else did: On the Internet.
After a season of showing Bravo viewers that she was completely devoted to her husband Kordell Stewart , she was shocked to find out that her marriage was over. Apparently, news that he filed for divorce came as a complete surprise to the “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star because she found out the heartbreaking news online.
“She was 100 percent completely blindsided. Friends are trying to contact her but she’s not picking up her phone or returning texts,” one of Porsha’s close friends told Us Magazine. “Her whole identity is about being a happy, obedient wife. The other women criticized her for not having a backbone but she was like, ‘A real marriage is about honoring your man, your king.’ She is really upset.”
Kordell filed divorce on March 22 and word only got out that he did so yesterday, March 26. This means that for four days, Porsha thought she was still in a committed relationship and there may have been no indication from Kordell that he was ready to call it quits.
But it according to an official statement from Porsha’s team, she had also been considering filing for a split as well. The difference is that she didn’t do it because Kordell told her that he was committed to working through their issues.
“Mrs. Stewart is disappointed about her husband’s recent filing for divorce. Mrs. Stewart had held off on filing for a divorce herself and remained committed to the marriage because Mr. Stewart promised to work on the marriage with her,” Porsha’s rep said in the statement, using Porsha’s married name as opposed to her maiden name. “Instead, he misled her and she found out about the filing in the media. Mrs. Stewart hopes to resolve these personal issues privately with the support of her family, friends and strong faith.”
Over the weekend, Porsha seemed to be confirming her faith that she and Kordell could hold their marriage together through their apparent rough patch. “God is good and he knows my heart. I’m trusting his plan for my life,” she tweeted. “A Marriage can last forever when two people decide to remain as one and conquer trials & tribulations together!”
Just days before their split was announced, Porsha was very much promoting Team Stewart as she sat down with Hollywood Life to talk about why her marriage was more of a partnership than people might think.
