Last Thursday, an Amber alert was issued for 21-month-old Bryeon Hunter from the Chicago suburb, Maywood, IL. According to the child’s mother, Lakeshia Baker, the infant was kidnapped by three Latino men, who Lakeshia claimed, also assaulted her and her boyfriend before abducting Bryeon.
The three men were cleared and the following day, Maywood Police charged Lakeshia as well as her boyfriend, Michael Scott (not Bryeon’s father), with first-degree murder.
Lakeshia and Michael have gone back and forth blaming each other for the young boy’s disappearance and, according to reports, prosecutors are saying that both beat the boy before dumping his body.
The search for Bryeon continues, but Maywood Police Chief Tim Curry tells ABC 7 in Chicago he’s “not optimistic” that Bryeon will be found alive. Police have already searched the nearby Des Plaines River, but so far, have come up empty and presume the boy dead.
Lakeshia Baker is being held without bond, while bail was set at $750,000 for Michael Scott.
Bryeon Hunter is 2-feet tall and weighs approximately 30 pounds. He was last seen Tuesday afternoon wearing a two-tone, striped long-sleeve shirt, jeans and brown Nike boots. Anyone with information should call the Maywood Police Department at 708-450-4471.
