Porsha Stewart was a business owner before she gave that up to be a wife. Though she has no regrets, she’s ready to reclaim that independence.
“Before I got married, I was very independent. I had my own businesses and I gave that up to become 100 percent wife. At this point, I am finding my way back to that Porsha, back to that independent woman who makes decisions on her own,” she told People magazine.
The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star admitted she’s still stunned about her husband’s covert filing of divorce papers, which she found out about via Twitter.
That morning after hearing the rumors, she asked Kordell for confirmation, and he refused to discuss it with her, she said.
“It wasn’t a confrontation… It was me just simply asking my husband, ‘Had you filed?’ which seemed crazy coming out of my mouth,” she told ABC News. “He said he thought about it and we’ll talk about it later and he left for work,” she said. “I had to call my attorney to find out.”
Though Porsha admitted that she felt “ashamed” by what happened, she would not have done things differently even if she could.
“A lot of it, I wouldn’t change. The wife that I was I’m proud of, so I’ll take that into my new relationship,” said Porsha, who would consider allowing her co-stars to set her up on dates.
Although, her castmates didn’t always give her the support she thought they should have when it came to her marriage, Porsha said she doesn’t blame them or the show for what happened.
“They called him controlling and that was hard for me to deal with,” she told ABC News. “I will not blame this divorce on anyone but the person who filed, and that is my ex.”
Her co-stars have been supportive of Porsha, even on-screen nemesis Kenya Moore, but she’s also leaning on her faith.
“This is not something I wanted,” she said. “There has to be a bigger blessing in this. I put my all into my marriage and being that it didn’t work out after trying my best to keep it there has to be something great coming for Porsha in the future.”
