Seemingly emotional, the singer approached the podium with his song “My Love Is All I Have” playing in the background. He addressed the crowd thanking God, Debra Lee, Stephen Hill, manager Michael Paran, Jena Langford, Karen Lee, Juanita Stephens, Marlon McClain and Pharrell Thomas. The big smile came when he thanked his wife for sticking by him for 19 years stating, “Y’all gotta clap for that!”
Though some see Lifetime Achievement awards as an indication that a career is coming to a close, Charlie told Sister 2 Sister that he’s got more to give and his solo career is just taking off. “I just care about good music, and there ain’t no kind of music that I can’t cut or perform or record. I’m happy that they gave me this award,” he said.
