TLC creator’s role minimized in VH1 film?

90sGroups_TLC.jpgFans will get a glimpse into the lives of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins, Lisa “LeftEye” Lopes and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas in “Crazy Sexy Cool,” VH1’s forthcoming biopic on the group TLC. But what brought the would-be superstars together in the first place?

Tionne recounted meeting music executive Ian Burke (pictured below) through her coworker Rico Wade in her 1999 book, Thoughts. It was Ian who first conceived of the group. However, viewers might not understand that when watching the made-for-TV movie. How’s Ian feel about being almost completely left out of TLC’s biopic? Find out.

Read the excerpt and get more from Ian in the June 2013 issue of Sister 2 Sister.

IanBurkeStephanie Dayton: Ian, did VH1 or the screenwriter consult with you at all?
Ian: No! At all. Being in the music business and being a film buff, I get it. There are certain things you’re gonna have to skate over and gloss over and make things a little more intense to hid other things because you want the entertainment value. I get it.

Stephanie: Knowing that it’s down to one line in this film when you played such a big part in it, how does that make you feel?

Ian: Oh, it hurts. Absolutely it hurts.

Stephanie: How would you describe what your impact has been on TLC?
Ian: As far as I’m concerned, I created it. That will always be my baby.

EveHow is Ian getting along with TLC these day? Find out in the June 2013 issue of Sister 2 Sister.
