Ciara got a very unpleasant surprise while she was performing at the 2013 L.A. Pride parade this weekend.
A West Hollywood gay club called The Factory is taking CiCi to court over allegedly pulling a no-show for her scheduled June 7 gig. The bar made a show of serving her with papers as an official handed her court documents alerting her to the suit while she was performing for the crowd on Saturday night.
Ciara was in the middle of singing “Promise” for eager, excited fans in Los Angeles when an unknown woman handed her papers. Ciara promptly dropped the lawsuit and went back to singing as if she had not been notified that The Factor intended to haul her into court. What a pro!
While Ciara has declined comment on the suit herself, her legal team did issue a statement to TMZ.com. “Ciara’s commitment to perform at L.A. Gay Pride on Saturday night prevented her from making such a Friday night appearance,” CiCi’s rep explained. “Despite being notified early last week that Ciara could not appear, The Factory continued to market and promote Ciara’s appearance.”
Ciara’s camp places full responsibility for the misunderstanding on the club, and questions why The Factory would allegedly attempt to lie to their customers. “The reason for the continued marketing/promotion is unclear,” said Ciara’s rep, “as it is not known why The Factory would intend to continue to mislead the public, to cause damage to the L.A. Gay Pride festival and to attempt to portray Ciara in a negative light.”
