Like Mary Jane Paul, Gabrielle has also spent much of her 20s focused on her career, but the Think Like a Man star said she might be ready for motherhood soon.
“I always knew I was going to wait really long, and I followed the Halle Berry example, and I think in the next couple of years, if I’m lucky, I will make that a reality, hopefully,” Gabrielle told “Extra.”
Unlike her BET character, Gabrielle already has the man to fill the daddy role, and if she weds longtime boyfriend, Dwyane Wade, she’ll be an automatic stepmom.
Now, that she’s forged a successful career, Gabby said the time for motherhood might be near. Though some criticize women for living out their professional goals before settling down, Gabrielle pointed out that it’s the new norm for many.
“I think the industry that we’re in, it’s not taboo to be an older mom. You’re not alone. There’s such a huge support to start a family a little bit older, and it’s okay,” said Gabby, who’s sure waiting for motherhood was the right move for her.
“I knew I wasn’t going to be the kind of parent I would want to be. I would be way too selfish and resent having to miss out on things. Now, I’m in a place where I’m happy and still wanting adventure, but I want part of that adventure to include a child.”
