“I feel like, what people gotta understand…nothing gonna change the way I feel about Damon, no time or space, no separation or anything. I got love for Damon Dash the same way as I did before,” he told the DJs at Power 105.1.
Although they were successful business partners for years, Jay-Z admitted he’s not quite sure they could work together today.
“I don’t think we can be around each other in that way because times have changed. He may be a totally different person. I know I’m a different person, but nothing can erase that era and those times and those memories and those fights that we had to get Roc-A-Fella where it was,” he said.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of love lost on Damon’s side either. In November, he told GlobalGrind.com that he was proud of Jay’s accomplishments since the two parted ways.
“Every success they have, I’m proud of. Every time I see them on television, I know what I did,” he said in reference to Jay and Kanye West.
However, he also admitted that their personal relationship might need professional attention to repair.
“I need Dr. Phil for that one,” he joked.
Jay agreed that there are some issues there, but nothing that’s bigger than what they built together.
“There’ll be some minor things in the middle that get in the way, but those things go away and the relationship remains, and those memories remain. We did something great. We built something that’s going to be here forever. There will always be love there,” he said.
