She might not have had the perfect testimony, but Rachel Jeantel still touched many with her recounts of what she heard on the night of Trayvon Martin’s death.
On Monday, Rachel Jeantel, the key witness for the prosecution in the Zimmerman trial, had an interview with CNN’s Piers Morgan. She stated that the verdict was “BS” and left her feeling “disappointed, upset, angry, questioning and mad.” She also shared her memories of Trayvon being a “calm, chill and loving person.”
The following morning, Rachel did an interview with radio host Tom Joyner. He said he was so moved by her testimony and her interview with Piers Morgan that he felt the need to help.
“Rachel, here’s my offer to you. If you want to graduate from high school and go to an HBCU, even if it’s not in Florida but especially Florida … If you want to do that, I want to help you do that,” Tom said live on his radio show.
He then continued by pledging that he would help make sure she graduates high school and scores well on her SAT. Tom said, “I will help you get tutors to get you out of high school, tutors to help you pass the SAT, and I will give you a full-ride scholarship to any HBCU you’d like.”
Tom has his own foundation, The Tom Joyner Foundation, to help fund HBCUs with scholarships and endowments. Rachel, who politely thanked him for his support, has previously stated that she has an interest in law enforcement. Keeping that in mind flip through our list of five HBCUs that Rachel might want to consider if she plans to take Tom up on his offer.
