Mali is the general manager of Tree Sound Studios, the earth-friendly recording studio in Atlanta that has artists like Drake, Lil Wayne, Elton John and even the late Whitney Houston come through to record songs.
Although Mali is recording her own album, she spoke with S2S because she has an interesting story to tell. After thinking of suicide and growing up with interracial parents who weren’t accepted by society, you can tell Mali’s life has been far from easy.
“My grandpa was against [my parent’s relationship] and said he kidnapped her every freakin’ time, and my daddy would get arrested every time. He would get fired from his job when they found out my mama was White. It was a lot of dirt that my parents went through,” Mali told S2S.
Despite her parents’ struggles, she tried to find love on her own. She married her first husband at the age of 20, a man 10 years older than she. Once she realized she didn’t know what love was that young, she found herself and realized she never needed a man.
“I don’t need no man to do nothing. I’ll put in the air conditioner. I will take out the toilet. My daddy used to make us chop wood. My dad was tough.”
